Our Story

In 1994 Old Credit Brewery was born with a simple philosophy.

Make great beer. But there is a little more to it than that.

In the early 1980’s Aldo Lista was approached by a group of brewers who wanted to rent his building, a building which was vacant after a custom clothing manufacturer moved out (who had produced some of the first clothing for Roots). After hearing their idea to start a mini brewery, Aldo was excited. He renovated the building, the brewers moved in, and Conners was born.

Conners grew quickly. Selling their beer only in large jugs, which would later be called growlers, they would run out by the end of every week. After a few years of incredible business they decided to expand, unfortunately their demand did not match their new size and they folded within a year.

Years later, a highly skilled brewmaster named Orrin Besko heard that there was this vacant brewery sitting in Port Credit with an owner who was looking to do something with it. He approached Aldo and they talked. How the conversation went changes based on who you ask. Aldo wanted to get into the brewing industry by brewing the highest quality beer possible, and Orrin wanted to try out a process he knew of that no one wanted to try because it was so expensive. This process is the process we still practice today, called ice aging. So Orrin agreed to take care of the beer if Aldo handled the business. Starting with our Amber Ale we grew, and although we only intended to ever have one beer, the Pale Pilsner and Holiday Honey were eventually added to our list.

Since then we have been slowly growing, spreading only by word of mouth. This way we could always ensure the highest quality of craft beer possible, but don’t take our word for it. Come pay us a visit and look at our wall of awards. We continue to be a small, family run business who take a lot of pride in what we do.
